The Cricket Web Team are proud to announce? a new lo?ok and feel to CW!

As you may have seen as you entered the site, some major changes have taken place as we attempt to improve and modernise Cricket Web to ensur?e ??it remains one of the best cricket sites.

Cricket Web are delig??hted to announce the following new features and changes that have been put in place for the new and improved site:

• Modern Responsive Design: We have built a new modern clean look across every page and section of the site. The design is fully responsive in that it will adjust itself to your actual device, whether desktop, mobile or tablet.
• Articles: Every article now has the ability to leave a comment and see other recent articles by that particular author. If you particularly like an author, you can also click on their name and see all articles written by that particular person.
• Cricket Books: The Cricket books section has undergone a big re-organisation with a detailed search system put in place that allows you to easily find a book you may be interested in.
• Predictions: We have launched a new interactive feature to the site in our newly built Cricket Predictions software. This works in a similiar way to Fantasy Cricket but rather than you earning points on player performances, you earn points on predicting various aspects within a match. Every feature from Fantasy Cricket has been migrated across allowing you to create private competitions, send messages between users, etc. The World Cup competition will kick off the Predictions software with it being created within the next 24 hours.
• Fantasy Cricket: Now follows the overall look and feel of the site and has a few extra features such as a section for Most Picked Players, the ability to easily view Competition Statistics, and a News Archive allowing you to view the history of updates across the game. We have a long list of features we will be adding over the next three to six months so stay tuned for more news in this area especially!

We have just touched the surface here with all the changes the team have been dedicatedly working on for the past few months and we’ll leave you to discover the rest for yourselves. We all had high hopes of bringing out a stellar cricket game during the first leg of this unprecedented Ashes year. But the fact of the matter is, we took a long hard look at the game as it stands and decided it simply wasn’t good enough in its current state. It was simply not worthy of the Ashes name.”

“Unforeseen issues which developer Trickstar faced in latter stages of development have meant that they have been unable to do the requisite amount of polishing and fine-tuning which any game needs. We owe it to ourselves, to our licensors, the ECB and Cricket Australia, but most of all to the dedicated cricket fans and gamers to put our best foot forward.”

Unlike many summers past, however, the vast majority of parents around the boundary edge are equipped with iPads and camera phones, and – rather than simply being able to reminisce about Jimmy’s first run for the Under-11s in years to come, the 21st century parent will be able to replay the outside edge or Chinese cut in all its glory.

Beyond the potential for embarrassing your offspring in years to come, however, there are positive implications for the plethora of modern technology. Anyone involved in education will tell you that children are some of nature’s great mimics – but there’s little good in copying a bad example, and it’s this issue that CricketCoachApp seeks to address. For a non-specialist – a parent hoping to set their offspring off on the right track, or a volunteer helping out with their club’s junior training nights – this app provides an excellent bank of resources. The videos are simple and clear (although as a specialist wicketkeeper, I’d argue with some of the posture shown in the glovework drills), there is an invaluable library of common faults, their symptoms, causes and solutions – bread and butter to the serious coach but far from obvious to the newcomer – and ideas for drills to add variety to a practice session.

One feature which could be improved is that the video playback doesn’t take advantage of the iPhone rotate feature, so the user doesn’t get as large a viewing area as possible. Additionally, some commentary accompanying the videos would be helpful. Finally, in the shot zones the text on the diagrams is very small – you might have to get your kids to read it for you!

This isn’t an app that any serious coach is going to use: there is no analytical mode to speak of beyond a simple side-by-side photograph comparison – the frame-by-frame playback, commentary or annotation present in a more coach-centred app such as Coach’s Eye is absent – but for what the App seeks out to achieve, and for a very reasonable price, it more than does its job.
